Club History
As a fairly new program, Michigan State's Actuarial Science Club has had the pleasure
of making connections with companies willing to recruit actuaries here. We've had
the interests of many companies, of which are labeled in the Companies tab. In the
spring of 2014, we had our first graduating class of Actuarial Science majors. Here
at Michigan State, we focus on making sure that graduates pass at least one exam before
they graduate. The curriculum includes classes that cover the first 5 preliminary
exams before graduation.
Our club was founded by Nathan Crum and Arie Kurniawan in 2005, both of whom now work
at Towers Watson. Every year, the club focuses on growth in size and connections.
From being a casual meeting over a euchre game, the club has now grown into a weekly
meeting with over 45 members. Each year, we add new companies to recruit our prospective
spartans. Newly implemented this year, students who pass an actuarial exam between
August and December will be reimbursed in full by the university. We've also added
volunteering events for resume building and a video of an overview of the Actuarial
program at Michigan State.
